  2. Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory,
  3. Cambridge, he developed the technique of
  4. sky-mapping using `aperture synthesis',
  5. combining smaller dish aerials to give the
  6. characteristics of one large one. His work on
  7. the distribution of radio sources in the
  8. universe brought confirmation of the Big Bang
  9. theory. He won, with Antony Hewish, the Nobel
  10. Prize for Physics 1974.
